Day 1 Depart USA
Depart the USA on your overnight flight to London. (Note: Due to flight schedules, passengers west of the Mississippi may have to depart one day earlier.)
Day 2 Arrive Nairobi
Arrive in London early this morning where you connect to the Nairobi flight. Jambo and welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival this evening, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Lala salama (sleep well).
Day 3 Nairobi | Meals: BD
A fun day awaits. Start the day at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where you will surely fall in love with one of the tiny charges being cared for by dedicated workers. You'll learn about the pain-staking work involved in saving and raising orphaned elephants and then teaching them to rejoin a herd in the wild. After lunch on your own, travel into the suburbs for a stop at the former home of Karen von Blixen. As you walk through the small rooms in the house, the scenes of "Out of Africa" will surely play in your head. End the day at the Giraffe Center, where you can come "eye to eye" with the Rothschild giraffe. This evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel.
Day 4 Nairobi-Amboseli | Meals: BLD
A 3-hour drive takes you just north of Amboseli to the Selenkay Conservancy, established in 1997. It's a unique area set aside by the local Maasai community to protect wildlife. Settle into the camp and have afternoon tea before venturing on a walk with the Maasai. You'll visit a nearby village for a fascinating look inside the life of the Maasai.
Porini Camp is within the Selenkay Conservation Area.
The Selenkay Conservation Area lies a few miles north of Amboseli National Park and is an important dispersal area and rangeland for wildlife migrating out of Amboseli. It lies in the heart of Maasailand and the animals are truly wild and not yet habituated to the presence of vehicles. The numbers of tourist visitors are being limited to a maximum of eight per day to retain the wild and unspoilt nature of the area and to minimise the impact on the environment. Within the conservation area the following animals have been seen recently: elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, gerenuk, impala, oryx, lesser kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, striped hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, Caracal, African wild cat, serval cat, genet cat, honey badger, mongoose and ostrich. Birdlife is prolific, especially birds of prey.
The facilities at the camp include 6 spacious guest tents, comfortably furnished and with en suite bathrooms including shower, wash basin and flush toilet. Tents have solar-powered electric lighting. The camp is small and is on the lines of the traditional luxury safari camp but with more comfortable bathroom arrangements than were available to the big game hunters of earlier years! The camp is private and only available to clients on the escorted safari itinerary with a maximum of 12 guests.

Day 5 Amboseli | Meals: BLD
Drive into Amboseli National Park for a full day of game viewing. Amboseli was established in 1974 and is perhaps most best known for its elephant population. Writer Ernest Hemingway also spent a great deal of time in Amboseli and many of his stories of game hunting are based on his time here. In addition to large herds of elephant, you might spot lots of other plains game like buffalo, zebra and impala. The cats are here as well, so keep an eye out for lion and leopard. Later this afternoon, drive into the Selenkay Conservancy area for a night game drive.

Day 6 Amboseli-Lakes Region | Meals: BLD
After early morning game-viewing, drive to Nairobi for lunch. Then continue into the Lakes Region and the Kigo Conservancy. This area of almost 3,500 acres was originally a beef and dairy ranch. In 1997 a project was developed to reintroduce the endangered Rothschild giraffe to the area. The giraffe settled in nicely and since then have expanded their numbers with several births. More wildlife was brought into the area and now it is a premier example of sustainable eco-tourism. This afternoon, enjoy a walk - and possibly an up-close encounter with one of the giraffes. If you are lucky, you might even have the chance to feed one by hand.
Day 7 Lakes Region | Meals: BLD
Spend the day game-viewing in nearby Lake Nakuru National Park. The park was first designated a bird sanctuary, and bird watchers will be delighted in the myriad of birds found in the park. Of course the Lake is one of the highlights of the park, as it covers almost one-third of the entire area of the park. In addition to the more than 450 bird species recorded, you'll also find more than 56 mammal species. Keep a look-out for white rhino, as Lake Nakuru is one of the best places to spot them. Early this evening, a treat awaits as you embark on a night game drive in Kigio Conservancy. Watch for leopard and serval -- both found in Kigio.
Day 8 Lakes Region-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Your drive takes you back to Nairobi where you stop for lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant for an opportunity to sample exotic meats like ostrich. Then board a light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara and your tented camp nestled in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. The conservancy is owned by the local Maasai community and has been set aside for wildlife conservation. Later, enjoy a game drive and sundowners.
Porini Camp has recently been set up in the exclusive wildlife conservancy of Ol Kinyei, one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Serengeti-Mara eco-system.
This is pristine wilderness with open savannah plains, riverine forest, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and spectacular views across the Mara. Ol Kinyei belongs to a Maasai community who have recently set aside the conservancy as a sanctuary for wildlife. The conservancy holds a wide variety of the animal species for which the Mara is famous including a large resident pride of lions.
The Porini camp has 6 guest tents sited in the shade of Yellow-barked Acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, a permanent spring within Ol Kinyei . The tents are spacious and each has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower. The camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests, giving the experience of real camping in the bush in an exclusive private wilderness but with all the comforts required by discerning travellers. Food is excellent with home baked bread, fresh salads and high quality meals prepared by the camp Chef.
Within the Ol Kinyei conservancy guests enjoy morning , evening and night game drives, sundowners at scenic viewing points and escorted walks with Maasai guides. The camp is located less than 18 kms from the Masai Mara park boundary. Ol Kinyei Conservancy is 250 kms from Nairobi by road - a 4 hour journey. It has its own airstrip for private charter flights and is 16 kms from the Siana airstrip used by the daily scheduled flights to Mara from Nairobi.

Day 9 Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Spend the day in nearby Masai Mara Reserve, Kenya's most famous park. One of the differences between a National Park and a Game Reserve is that in a Game Reserve, the Maasai people live and tend their cattle side by side with the wildlife. The Masai Mara plays host to an extraordinary range of both plains game, birdlife and predators! A day of game viewing in the Masai Mara might reveal hundreds of impala, zebra or wildebeest stretched across the expansive plains. A keen eye might spot the lilac-breasted roller Cardinal Quelea and the White-bellied Go-away bird. And of course, the Mara is home of the king: the majestic lion and you will likely spot several.
