Welcome to Kenya! You will be met and transferred to your hotel. After lunch, a short drive takes you to the suburbs of Karen where you will visit the Karen Blixen Museum. As you walk through the former home of Karen von Blixen, scenes of her famous book, "Out of Africa" will come to life. Then continue on to the Giraffe Center to spend time feeding and learning about the graceful Rothschild Giraffe.
Day 4 Nairobi-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Begin your safari in Kenya's most famous park, as your drive takes you to the Masai Mara today. Arrive in time for lunch and then enjoy an afternoon game drive. Have your game-viewing checklist handy, as the Masai Mara has one of the richest varieties of birdlife and wildlife in the world. Buffalo and wildebeest herds are huge in the Mara - and predators like lion and hyena are equally abundant.
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.

Morning and afternoon game drives are always exciting in the Masai Mara, as you never know what you will see! Topi, gazelle and elephant are frequently seen, as are silver-backed jackals, hippo and crocodiles.

Your journey takes you into the Rift Valley and ecologically diverse Lake Nakuru National Park. After lunch at your lodge, an afternoon game drive might reveal rhino, Rothschild giraffe, waterbuck and impala. Watch the treetops for the playful black and white Colobus monkeys.
Day 7 Lake Nakuru-Amboseli | Meals: BLD
Drive to Nairobi for lunch and then continue towards the Tanzanian border to stunning Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Cynthia Moss focused much of her research on elephants in Amboseli National Park as herds of these gentle giants dot the plains.
Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa�s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930s, inspired Ernest Hemingway�s unforgettable stories �The Snows of Kilimanjaro� and �The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber� which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.
While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world�s most renowned African tribe.

Crossing into Tanzania today, stop for lunch in Arusha before continuing on to Lake Manyara. As you approach Lake Manyara, you are sure to be struck by the dramatic views. The lake lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Springs rise up from the base of the escarpment, providing a welcome water supply.
It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for Lake Manyara Serena Lodge - on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the stunning Manyara soda lake. Our drive takes us first to Olduvai Gorge. The Gorge looks like a long, dry trench cut out from the surrounding plains and is a veritable archaeological treasure-trove. Louis and Mary Leakey spent more than 28 years sifting through hundreds of fossils before uncovering the "homo habilis" (Handy Man), dating back more than 1.6 million years. After a picnic lunch, continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. At just 100 square miles, Ngorongoro Crater comprises a small portion of the 3200 square mile conservation area.
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.

Day 14 Ngorongoro-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
Drive to Tarangire today. Thanks to the permanent water supply of the Tarangire River, the park is a dry-season haven for huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and other plains game. During your afternoon game drive enjoy the vistas dotted with majestic baobab trees.
Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.
Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.
With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.
While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.
Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.

Day 11 Serengeti | Meals: BLD
The short grass plains of the Serengeti combined with an abundant source of food in large herds of zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo, make the Serengeti an ideal place to spot cheetah on the hunt. Cheetahs (unlike lions and leopards) will hunt during the day. Unfortunately, its open hunting technique also makes it easy for lion and leopard to steal the cheetah's kill. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives today.

Day 12 Serengeti-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
Our drive takes us first to Olduvai Gorge. The Gorge looks like a long, dry trench cut out from the surrounding plains and is a veritable archaeological treasure-trove. Louis and Mary Leakey spent more than 28 years sifting through hundreds of fossils before uncovering the "homo habilis" (Handy Man), dating back more than 1.6 million years. After a picnic lunch, continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. At just 100 square miles, Ngorongoro Crater comprises a small portion of the 3200 square mile conservation area.
Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.

Day 13 Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
A full day of game viewing in the Crater is a highlight. Supporting more than 25,000 mammals, the crater is home to a wide variety of both herbivores and carnivores. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and eland are abundant. With such a rich food supply, carnivores like lion, hyenas and leopard are also at home in the crater. Watch for the kori bustard (the world's largest flying bird) to see if you can spot its elaborate territorial display during breeding season.

Day 14 Ngorongoro-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
Drive to Tarangire today. Thanks to the permanent water supply of the Tarangire River, the park is a dry-season haven for huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and other plains game. During your afternoon game drive enjoy the vistas dotted with majestic baobab trees.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge
Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.
Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.
With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.
While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.
Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.

Drive to Arusha where you stop for lunch before continuing by road to Nairobi. This evening, enjoy dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant.

This morning, visit the Daphne Sheldrick Orphanage for a unique perspective into the painstaking work involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants. You will have a chance to meet the special caretakers who bond with their charges and become surrogate mothers. Later, depart on the overnight flight to London.
