Day 1  Arrive Kilimanjaro (Arusha)
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the night. Sleep well the excitement begins tomorrow morning.

Arusha Coffee Lodge

Lying on the gentling rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania's largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any African safari.

Comprising of 30 Plantation Houses - inclusive of 12 Plantation Suites - that radiate out into the evergreen coffee fields, Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner's home that dates back to the early 1900's.

The theme of coffee is never far away at Arusha Coffee Lodge, and this is never more evident than in the Plantation Suites where the theme coffee bean permeates even the interior designs of both the main bedroom as well as the beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom.

The homely feel of the Lodge is by no means accidental as the origins of the homestead continue to emit glimpses of times-gone-by. The friendly and personable staff help create an ambiance that continues to draw appreciation from all those who visit and stay.

Within the main Plantation House reside an 'a la carte' restaurant, an intimate bar and a cozy lounge, all of which possess inviting open log fires that will fill the cool night air with a comforting warmth and a welcoming glow.

With two boutiques, an enclosed and intimate swimming pool and a popular garden terrace, Arusha Coffee Lodge encourages exploration and discovery at every turn.

From the industrious coffee pickers gathering in the harvest to the aromas of the morning brew emanating from the main Plantation House as breakfast is being prepared, Arusha Coffee Lodge is full of sensory experiences that revitalizes the body and soul for the adventures and excitement that lie ahead.

Day 2  Arusha-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
This morning, meet your private driver-guide and leave Arusha for Tarangire National Park, arriving later this morning. Game view your way through the Park to your lodge, where you have lunch before a late afternoon game drive.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge

Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.

Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.

With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.

While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.

Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.
  • 75 spacious rooms, all with a private lounge on entering with a mini bar. Each room has 2 queen size beds with a mosquito net around them.
    • 4 of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged.
    • 4 interconnecting rooms suitable for families.

Day 3  Tarangire | Meals: BLD
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Tarangire today.

Thanks to the Tarangire River (which runs through the park), Tarangire is a haven for wildlife and you might find high concentrations of plains game like Thomson's gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck and much more. There are 8 distinct zones in Tarangire, from seasonal swamps to open plains and acacia woodland. Look (and listen) for the spotted hyena whose distinctive "whoop" is often heard through the still of the night. Thanks to the plentiful supply of food, predators like lion, leopard and cheetah are well represented in Tarangire. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded in Tarangire, so keep your eyes peeled for the bateleur eagle, ground hornbill and abundant species of bee-eaters and rollers.

Day 5  Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
Leave your lodge this morning and head to the town of Karatu where you then turn off and head towards the well-known Gibbs Farm Lodge. On arrival you are provided a tour of the farm and gardens with an insight into the local cultivation methods. Enjoy a scrumptious lunch, with fresh vegetables grown on the farm. Then, continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate and ascend the back wall of the crater. Your scenic journey takes you around the rim of the crater to your lodge which has panoramic views of this famous landmark. Dinner is served.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.

Themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs, and decorated with examples of Africa's rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, the lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings. But the drama does not just stop with the great outdoors: it also flows through the split level interiors of the main building which all offer an unsurpassed generosity of space while somehow managing to combine an almost magically welcoming ambiance of both warmth and coziness.

Rooms

Brightly colored flowers of many species of shrubs border the paved pathways which lead away from both sides of the swimming pool to our guest rooms which are built to the same design.

When you step through your door, you will probably hold your breath while you stare over the two queen size beds, and through the window walling of the lower level, enclosed solarium at the view of the crater beyond.

And the luxury doesn't stop there. Because of its altitude the lodge can be chilly at night so each room has central heating; hot water bottles are placed in every bed during our evening turndown service; and our luxuriously appointed bathrooms have extremely spacious showers under which you can reminisce about the wonders of this awesome, almost magically mystical place called Ngorongoro.

All rooms are equipped with amenities to ensure maximum comfort during your stay with us. Among these are our wake up calls and complimentary coffee and tea, all of which will help to kick start an early morning game drive.

Day 6  Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart to explore what is commonly referred to as the Worlds largest natural wildlife zoo. After breakfast, you descend with a picnic lunch through the early mornings mist and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the Worlds largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. Its an awesome wildlife experience. A picnic lunch is served overlooking a small lake populated with hippos. You return to the lodge in the late afternoon where dinner is then served.

Day 8 & 9  Serengeti | Meals: BLD
The Serengeti is one of the most well-known national parks in the world. And it's not surprising. Appropriately, the park gets its name from the Maasai word siringet which means vast, endless plains. This is Tanzania's largest park and much of its 5,625 square miles are grassy plains. Game viewing in the Serengeti is never disappointing, as the park has one of the highest concentrations of game in Tanzania. Plains game like Coke's hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle and Grant's gazelle are plentiful. So too are buffalo and wildebeests. The Serengeti is also famous for the big cats. Thanks to the large food supply provided by the plains game, the big cats are also found in large numbers. Cheetahs love the kopjes as they provide excellent vantage points for spotting prey. If you are lucky you might spot the fringe-eared oryx or the shy klipspringer. Watch the rocks for the rock hyrax...the closest relative to the elephant! Bird lovers will be busy checking off species from their list. Look for the Ruppell's longtailed starling, Griffon vulture, kori bustard, ostrich and the colorful lilac-breasted roller - to name just a few.

    Serengeti: Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp

    Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp

A tented camp with a difference

Scenically located in a glade guarded by 3 million year old granite towers, Mbuzi Mawe (meaning Klipspringer in English) makes maximum use of its unique wilderness location. There are al fresco breakfasts, safari luncheons, lantern-lit bush suppers, campfire roasts, and dance displays by the Ikoma people as well as game drives, ranger-led bush walks, ornithology and sightings of: elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, hyena, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, warthog, hippo and crocodile.

Unlike any other camp, Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp lies at the epicenter of the Serengeti within easy reach of the prime wildlife theatres of Lobo, the Western Corridor of the Grumeti River, the southern grass plains, the Seronera Valley and the kopjes, or inselbergs, of Barafu, Gol, Maasai, Loliondo, Simba and Moru.

The focal point of the camp is the central lounge - a place of light and air, with stunning views of the surrounding savannah. In the rear of the lounge, a cocktail bar is stocked with a wide selection of beers, wines and spirts and its decor blends the gnarled timbers of ancient dhows with champagne suede, claret chenille and amber weaves.

The dining tent has its own shaded terrace for optional outdoor dining while the cuisine blends the traditional camp fare of flame-roasted meats with salads, fresh garden produce, piquant fish dishes and luscious desserts.

16 spacious tents are equipped with 24-hour electricity, constant hot water, ensuite bathroom, dressing area, two double four-poster beds and a verandah with double sun bed.
