Welcome to Costa Rica. Upon arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 2 San Jose-Monteverde | Meals: B
Leave San Jose and begin your road trip to Monteverde, which should take about 4 hours. Sit back and enjoy this scenic drive, particularly the last portion of it when the mountain scenery is breathtaking. Settle into your hotel.
Later, visit Selvatura Park, set in the midst of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You'll take the Tree Top Walkways on a fascinating 1.9 mile walk thorugh the Monteverde Cloud Forest. A series of eight bridges (some as short as 150 feet to as long as 510 feet) and altitudes of 36 feet up to 180 feet take you on a mesmerizing walk through the top of the Cloud Forest. The walk takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and will provide a wonderful perspective of the forest. You can also check out the 50 species of butterflies in the Butterfly Garden -- as well as the 15 species of hummingbirds in the Hummingbird Garden.
Day 3 Monteverde | Meals: B
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve which covers more than 26,000 acres of forest and is home to more than 2,000 species of plants, 400 species of birds and 100 mammal species. Perhaps the most famous resident of the Cloud Forest is the spectacular quetzal. The male quetzal's tail feathers can reach more than 2 feet! The day is at leisure to explore on your own. For a different perspective, why not take the Monteverde Train Forest ride?
Day 4 Monteverde-Manuel Antonio | Meals: B
Today's shuttle transfer takes about 4 hours as you drive to Manuel Antonio -- one of the most beautiful Central Pacific beaches. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 5 Manuel Antonio | Meals: BD
At just over 1600 acres, Manuel Antonio National Park is quite small but teeming with wildlife. This morning, enjoy a half day tour in the park. As you walk through the park, you'll be accompanied by the constant chatter of the capuchin monkeys. Look out for sloths, iguanas up in the trees, along with toucans and parrots. Don't be surprised if a coati scampers in front of your path. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 6 Manuel Antonio-Corcovado (South Pacific) | Meals: BLD
A 3-hour road journey brings you to Sierpe, from where you will drive to the dock and finish your journey by boat. Known as the "wild south" or "last frontier", the South Pacific region is home to Corcovado and the largest stretch of pacific coastal rain forests in Central America. A stay here brings you close to nature with opportunities to see some of Costa Rica's most exotic flora and fauna. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 7 Corcovado | Meals: BLD
Spend the day exploring Corcovado National Park located in the Osa Peninsula. You begin with a boat ride to the Ranger's station, which takes about 30 minutes. From here, you continue by foot into the National Park. Part of the trail is a rather steep uphill climb, so good walking shoes are a must. You'll stop at an idea lookout spot to rest and watch for dolphins and/or whales while enjoying lunch.
Day 8 Corcovado | Meals: BLD
A treat awaits today as you visit the Isla del Cano Biological Reserve, a marine biological reserve about 20km offshore from the Osa Peninsula. The area was once used as a pre-Columbian cemetary. The island was believed to be formed more than 50 million years ago as a result of a shift of the earth's tectonic plates. The main attraction lies underwater, where you will discover gorgeous coral reefs and some of the world's most stunning marine flora and fauna. At least 15 species of stony coral have been identified.
Day 9 South Pacific-San Jose | Meals: B
After breakfast, a boat and ground transfer takes you back to the Palmar Sur airstrip from where you depart on a light aircraft flight to San Jose. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 10 San Jose-Depart | Meals: B
Your adventure comes to an end as you fly home today.
