Grassland Bushman Lodge is situated on the western side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in the Ghanzi district of Botswana. The property is a private wildlife reserve of some 15,000 hectares.
The Central Kalahari is our home and has been so for five generations, we would love to share our passion and firsthand knowledge of the Kalahari with our guests.
Our lodge is somewhat different from most others you will encounter in Botswana. We are a family concern and proud citizens of Botswana. Apart from the family the rest of our staff complement is made up entirely of San (Bushmen), most have worked alongside our family for generations. In fact our family has lived in the western region of the Ghanzi district for over 120 years.
The main complex area can be divided into three areas, a large lounge and dining room in one building, a huge covered bar area that also doubles up as a dining area/ outside lounge which is adjacent to the swimming pool. All of these structures overlook a waterhole where a huge variety of wildlife can be seen from the comfort of chairs or from the pool area.
Our hospitality can best be described as home away from home, a sense of genuine ease prevails .... A relaxed and informal holiday - after all holidays are meant to be relaxing.
Our lodge can accommodate up to 16 guests and we are also able to accommodate families in a special family unit. Accommodation is in comfortable en suite chalets with shower, basin and wc. Electricity is provided during most parts of the day by means of a generator.

Day 4 Grasslands Camp (Central Kalahari) | Meals: BLD
The focus is on game, culture and the overall bush experience. Sitting in the middle of Botswana, The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is larger in size than Denmark and is the largest sand basin in the world. The San Bushmen have inhabited the Kalahari for more than 30,000 years. Their hunter-gatherer lifestyle is fascinating and Grasslands Camp is one of the best places to have a truly authentic San experience. The opportunity to speak with the bushmen and learn about village life and go on walks with them is absolutely magical. There is also an abundance of wildlife to be found in the Kalahari, and game viewing activities can include game drives or walks with one of the experienced San. The camp is also close to the Predator Project, which works to save predators like lion, cheetah and wild dog. Working with the Department of Wildlife, the Predator Project goal is to keep the predators away from local cattle ranches where they face certain death from the ranchers, and develop an area for them to be safe and save threatened species from extinction. You might want to visit the project and learn more about this important work.

Day 5 Grasslands Camp-Delta Camp (Okavango Delta) | Meals: BLD
We move into the Okavango Delta today and our comfortable camp near Chiefs Island. Delta Camp is primarily a water camp, so most of your game viewing activities will take place on or near the water. Traditional mokoros are the standard mode of transport here - these dug-out canoes glide silently along the water providing a totally different view point of game and bird life. And, while at Delta Camp you'll enjoy the services of your own private guide on your mokoro rides or on a bush walk. (Each chalet at Delta Camp is assigned a private guide).
Delta Camp is situated on the South Western edge of Chief's Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
The focus at the camp is on peace and tranquillity (stalking game on foot provides all the excitement one could wish for) and guests are actively encouraged to visit the local village, home to the guides, and to interact with the people there. Delta Camp is predominantly a Water Camp with walks on Islands. At Delta Camp we still use the traditional mokoro (dug-out canoe).
Delta Camp offers arguably the purest traditional Okavango Delta experience - each of the 7 chalets is assigned its very own private guide to explore the area around Chief's Island on mokoro and on foot. The guides are truly "locals" - this is a man of the swamp, born and raised in the area, and you will spend your days in his mokoro (dug-out canoe) and walking on some of the many islands in the area, taking in the magnificent scenery and light, and the abundant game and bird-life of the Okavango.
The choice of fresh vegetables, cheeses, excellent meats and fine wines flown in daily and lovingly prepared, maintain the camp's enviable reputation for cuisine. Dine in the elegant dining room overlooking the sweep of the Delta viewing the surrounding flood-plains and the wildlife that abounds. Another option is to take a beautifully prepared picnic onto one of the many nearby islands for a secluded and intimate experience.
Accommodation is for only 14 guests in spacious 'lethaka' (reed) chalets with en suite facilities. Built of natural materials and elevated off the forest floor, each chalet has hot and cold running water, a shower with a view, and solar-powered electric lighting.
The amazing design of the chalets is such that you enjoy the luxuries of a 'top rate' hotel, but without affecting the environment; you will find you share your chalet with the trees, while taking full advantage of the views of the surrounding bush and flood-plains.
Delta Camp engenders in its staff and guests alike an acute awareness of the ecological sensitivity of this magnificent area. Bio-degradable products have been sourced and are used. Careful separation and treatment of refuse ensures that nothing that is not fully bio-degradable stays on the island - light aircraft remove cans, bottles and the like from the Okavango altogether - thus the staff and guests are continuously contributing towards a healthier environment.
Delta Camp is also one of a few establishments that accommodates children and thus families are most welcome.
