A light aircraft flight takes you from Nairobi to Arusha today, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Spend the afternoon relaxing or perhaps opt for a visit to a local children's center.
Day 4  Arusha-Tarangire (BLD)
We're off early this morning as our drive takes us out of Arusha and across the plains to Tarangire. At almost 1,100 square miles, Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest park in Tanzania. The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which runs through the park. During the dry season, the river is a magnet to animals who come from miles away to quench their thirst. Settle in at your lodge and enjoy lunch before heading into the park for a game drive.
Day 5  Tarangire (BLD)
Tarangire hosts a wide array of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, along with migratory wildebeest and zebra. Tarangire is also a great place to spot the fringe-eared oryx and long-necked gerenuk. Birdlife is prolific in the park - more than 550 bird species have been spotted in the park. In fact, Tarangire is known as hosting the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world. If you are looking for the Big Cats, check out the trees. You might spot a leopard snoozing in the branchs of the sausage tree.
Day 6  Tarangire-Lake Manyara (BLD)
Our drive takes us the the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment today as we enter Lake Manyara National Park. It is a small park, and most of it is comprised of Lake Manyara itself. This is another paradise for bird lovers, with more than 400 recorded species, including the spectacular pink flamingo. Enjoy lunch at the lodge and then it's out on an afternoon game drive.
Day 7  Lake Manyara-Ngorongoro (BLD)
We travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area today, stopping first at Gibb's Farm. A working farm, Gibb's Farm was built in 1929 and remains relatively unchanged in it's charm. The cozy farmhouse is filled with fireplaces and nooks to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. From the great lawn, panoramic vistas open onto the valley below. Take a guided walk along forest trails to a scenic waterfall, stopping at coffee fields along the way. After a delightful farm-house lunch, we continue to our lodge in Ngorongoro.
Day 8  Ngorongoro (BLD)
We begin early this morning as we descend from the rim of the crater to the floor below for some exciting game viewing. Ngorongoro was formed several million years ago when a volcano exploded and collapsed on itself. Today, it hosts more than 25,000 animals, including plains game like wildebeest, buffalo, eland and Grant's gazelle. Of course, with the abundance of food, predators like lion, cheetah and hyena are not far behind. With luck, you might also spot black rhino. Return to the lodge for a late lunch and an afternoon visit to a nearby Maasai village.
Day 9  Ngorongoro-Serengeti (BLD)
Leaving Ngorongoro, we stop at Olduvai Gorge, site of one of the most important archaeological discoveries of all time - the Leakey's discovery of a 1.8 million year old hominoid skeleton remains. Then we drive across the plains into the massive Serengeti and our tented camp in the western corridor of the Serengeti. After lunch at the camp, we're out on an afternoon game drive. The Serengeti is the largest park in Tanzania and it plays host the largest migration on earth. Keep your game viewing list handy as you will likely spot lion, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, giraffes and much more.
Day 10 & 11  Serengeti (BLD)
Two full days of game viewing will fly by in the Serengeti. Watch the kopjes (small hills) for cheetah - it's a favorite spot for them to hunt their prey. Along with learning about the amazing wildlife, your guides will also tell you about the plant and insect life of the Serengeti - each playing a role in the delicate eco-system. One of the most common trees you'll see in the Serengeti is the Sausage tree - easily spotted by the long fruits (which are poisonous) that hang from the tree and release their seeds as the pulp rots. The Maasai believe if you hang a sausage tree fruit in their hut it will ward off whirlwinds. Day 12  Serengeti-Nairobi (BL)
A light aircraft flight takes you back to Arusha today where you continue by light aircraft back to Nairobi. Time to freshen up at our partner Club Lounge before enjoying dinner and a transfer to the airport. Your overnight flight to London leaves late this evening.
