Day 3  Nairobi-Arusha | Meals: BLD
After a leisurely morning, our drive takes us south, across the border into Tanzania, arriving in time for lunch. This afternoon we'll spend some time at the very special Children for Children's Future Drop-in center in Arusha. This private, non-profit organization provides a place for children who need a helping hand. CCF has two facilities - this one helps children between the ages of 5-12 who might need temporary help. The children are cared for, given medical care and education and may leave at any time.

Arusha Coffee Lodge

Lying on the gentling rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania's largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any African safari.

Comprising of 30 Plantation Houses - inclusive of 12 Plantation Suites - that radiate out into the evergreen coffee fields, Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner's home that dates back to the early 1900's.

The theme of coffee is never far away at Arusha Coffee Lodge, and this is never more evident than in the Plantation Suites where the theme coffee bean permeates even the interior designs of both the main bedroom as well as the beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom.

The homely feel of the Lodge is by no means accidental as the origins of the homestead continue to emit glimpses of times-gone-by. The friendly and personable staff help create an ambiance that continues to draw appreciation from all those who visit and stay.

Within the main Plantation House reside an 'a la carte' restaurant, an intimate bar and a cozy lounge, all of which possess inviting open log fires that will fill the cool night air with a comforting warmth and a welcoming glow.

With two boutiques, an enclosed and intimate swimming pool and a popular garden terrace, Arusha Coffee Lodge encourages exploration and discovery at every turn.

From the industrious coffee pickers gathering in the harvest to the aromas of the morning brew emanating from the main Plantation House as breakfast is being prepared, Arusha Coffee Lodge is full of sensory experiences that revitalizes the body and soul for the adventures and excitement that lie ahead.

Day 4  Arusha-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
After breakfast, we begin our drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation area, stopping first Gibb's Farm, a working farm set on the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You'll have time to enjoy a delightful lunch, much of which will include locally grown fruits and vegetables. Then, continue on to Ngorongoro Crater for the night.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.

Themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs, and decorated with examples of Africa's rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, the lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings. But the drama does not just stop with the great outdoors: it also flows through the split level interiors of the main building which all offer an unsurpassed generosity of space while somehow managing to combine an almost magically welcoming ambiance of both warmth and coziness.

Rooms

Brightly colored flowers of many species of shrubs border the paved pathways which lead away from both sides of the swimming pool to our guest rooms which are built to the same design.

When you step through your door, you will probably hold your breath while you stare over the two queen size beds, and through the window walling of the lower level, enclosed solarium at the view of the crater beyond.

And the luxury doesn't stop there. Because of its altitude the lodge can be chilly at night so each room has central heating; hot water bottles are placed in every bed during our evening turndown service; and our luxuriously appointed bathrooms have extremely spacious showers under which you can reminisce about the wonders of this awesome, almost magically mystical place called Ngorongoro.

All rooms are equipped with amenities to ensure maximum comfort during your stay with us. Among these are our wake up calls and complimentary coffee and tea, all of which will help to kick start an early morning game drive.

Day 5  Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
A highlight awaits as you descend 2,000 feet to the Crater floor for a morning game drive. The Crater's wide variety of habitats allows it to support abundant wildlife. Birdlife is equally spectacular - be sure to have your binoculars ready. Later this afternoon, a visit to a nearby Masai village gives you an opportunity to learn about these proud warriors and their lifestyle.

Day 6  Ngorongoro-Serengeti | Meals: BLD
Your morning departure takes you first to Olduvai Gorge, site of Mary and Louis Leakey's famous discovery of "homo habilis". Then continue your drive into the Serengeti. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word "siringet", which means endless plains. Appropriately named, every year the Serengeti plays host to perhaps the most impressive migration of herbivores found in the world. Game-viewing is exciting year-round, as the Big Cats are in abundance.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge

Located on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, home to many thousands of wild and rare animals, Serengeti Sopa Lodge lies within an area of out-standing natural beauty. An oasis of cool relaxation from the equatorial sun.

The lodge allows its guests to experience magnificent sights and enjoy interaction with the land and animals difficult to find elsewhere, whilst at the same time enjoying the highest level of cuisine and hospitality.

Accommodations

Fully en suite guestrooms and suites have been designed, decorated and furnished with only your total comfort in mind.

69 standard rooms, all with 2 queen size beds, carpeted, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures. One entering the room is a lounge with a mini bar. In the front is a verandah with 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.
  • 1 of these rooms are suitable for the physically handicapped.
4 very spacious double story suites, with a lounge area on the ground floor where one can dine, sit out on the balcony facing the Serengeti Plains.
  • Upstairs is the bedroom with a king size bed on a raised wooden platform, and on one side a bathtub facing the plains. There is an outside open shower as well.
The interior of the suites are painted with the same colours as the main building, terracotta, mustard and blue, which is incorporated in the fabrics. A verandah extends from the room facing the plains, ideal for relaxing and watching the spectacular serengeti sunset.

×

Day 7  Serengeti | Meals: BLD
The short grass plains of the Serengeti combined with an abundant source of food in large herds of zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo, make the Serengeti an ideal place to spot cheetah on the hunt. Cheetahs (unlike lions and leopards) will hunt during the day. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 8  Serengeti-Lake Manyara | Meals: BLD
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara, arriving in time for lunch. The views are particularly breathtaking here and your lodge's location provides stunning panoramas of the Valley. Spend the afternoon on a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Thanks to the wide variety of habitats found inside the park, game is plentiful. Be on the lookout for the graceful impala, the mischievous baboon and much more.

Day 9  Lake Manyara-Tarangire | Meals: BL
Your journey takes you to Tarangire today. Thanks to the permanent water supply of the Tarangire River, the park is a dry-season haven for huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and other plains game. During your afternoon game drive, enjoy the vistas dotted with majestic baobab trees.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge

Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.

Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.

With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.

While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.

Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.
  • 75 spacious rooms, all with a private lounge on entering with a mini bar. Each room has 2 queen size beds with a mosquito net around them.
    • 4 of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged.
    • 4 interconnecting rooms suitable for families.

Day 10  Tarangire | Meals: BLD
Morning and afternoon game drives provide time to search for the "temporary" residents of Tarangire who have journeyed for miles in search of water. In addition to elephant, wildebeest and zebra, you might spot the fringe-eared oryx and long-necked gerenuk. Bird lovers will delight in the more than 550 bird species recorded in the park.
