Day 5  Amboseli-Samburu | Meals: BLD
A light aircraft flight takes you to Nairobi where you stop for lunch before continuing by light aircraft to Samburu National Reserve. The broad Uaso Nyiro River (which means "river of brown water") cuts through the reserve providing life to this dry, arid environment. As you game drive along the river, watch the tree branches carefully, as a leopard may be taking a siesta in one of them.

Samburu Serena

Serena Samburu is situated on the wooded banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, in the heart of the rugged, semi-arid Samburu Game Reserve. The park preserves the natural balance that existed betwen the local Samburu tribes and the wildlife which ranges from elephant, buffalo and lion to a wide range of birdlife. All guest rooms have a private verandah that overlook the river where crocodile feed in full view.

The park is renowned for rare game - the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and Besia oryx. Leopard are frequently seen resting in the branches of the riverine trees.

There are 62 rooms, including 8 family rooms.

×

Day 6  Samburu | Meals: BLD
Morning and afternoon game drives are included today. Samburu's intimate size makes game viewing easier. Along with the larger plains mammals like buffalo, greater kudu, lesser kudu and elephant, you will most likely see species unique to Samburu such as the Grevy's zebra (look for the oversized ears and thinner stripes), the gerenuk and the reticulated giraffe (easy to spot because its pattern forms a very distinctly-lined patchwork).

Day 13  Ngorongoro-Lake Manyara | Meals: BLD
Drive through the highlands today, stopping at a local village. Enjoy a traditional village lunch before continuing to Lake Manyara.

Lake Manyara Serena Lodge

It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for Lake Manyara Serena Lodge - on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the stunning Manyara soda lake. Tree-climbing lions are but one lure. The extraordinary birdlife has made this place world-renowned among ornithologists, who come to observe the masses of pink flamingos and great birds of prey.

The abundant birdlife inspired the design of Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge - swooping curves are complemented by soft, geometric patterns; stylish murals depict bird migration patterns. The circular shape of the buildings is a tribute to indigenous architectural traditions. Beyond the superb standards of hospitality offered, there is a spirit of tranquility that prevails.
