Then it's on to the Giraffe Center for a fun encounter with the Rothschild giraffes. Just hold a food pellet in your hand and you'll soon come eye to eye with one of these graceful ungulates. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

A scheduled light aircraft flight takes you north to Samburu and your tented camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Sometimes called the "brown river", the Ewaso Nyiro River cuts through the reserve, attracting a rich variety of wildlife in search of water and shade. Leopard are frequently spotted in Samburu, so keep a look out!
Elephant Bedroom Camp offers luxury in a setting of breath taking beauty. It is set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River and shaded by doum palms and other trees that make up this green belt of riverine forest. The surrounding Samburu National Reserve is an area of spectacular scenery; its dry plains bisected by the meandering river, with the backdrop of Africa's dramatic mountains, including Mt Kenya.

The park was originally gazetted as a bird sanctuary in 1960, but upgraded to a reserve in 1968. Lake Nakuru is one of the best places to spot rhino and the Rothschild giraffe, both of which are protected here.
