Day 2 Dar es Salaam-Saadani National Park | Meals: BLD
Get ready for a unique experience when your drive takes you to the Indian Ocean Coast and your beach-front safari lodge. Saadani is Tanzania's most recent National Park and it is the only place in East Africa where you can combine a safari experience with a beach experience. Imagine soaking int he sun on your private verandah and watching elephants walk along the beach. This and much more awaits you at Saadani.
Saadani Safari Lodge sits in the heart of Saadani National Park, Tanzania. Saadani is unique for it's extraordinary diversity of scenery and wildlife. Beach, Bush and river have been thrown together in such a colourful clash of ecosystems that there is nothing to compare with it anywhere on the Eastern Coast of Africa.
At Saadani Safari Lodge, the only lodge in the National Park, the Indian Ocean breaks almost to the foot of your bed directly onto African Bush and forces it way into the Wami River on the rising tide, just down the coast. Elephants have been known to cavort on the beach and just a stone's throw from the open sea, Hippos wallow in the river estuary.
The Lodge is a delicate blend of rustic chic and eco-cool. Whether you chose to spend your day spotting wildlife or simply relaxing by the swimming pool or beach, Saadani Safari Lodge is your home from home.
The lofty main building, grass-roofed and made from local wood, rests on stilts amongst a stand of dramatic screw palms overlooking the sea. Meals are served on the lower deck, with menus focusing largely on feasts of fresh prawns and other seafood, which are a speciality of the area and bought to Saadani's kitchens daily.
Higher up, towards the expansive rafters, a sitting room and sundowner deck gives panoramic views of the ocean on one side and the bush on the other, and is a lovely place for drinks before dinner.
Each morning a tray of tea, coffee and fresh juice is brought to your veranda, from which you can wake gently with the rising sun before starting your day's adventure.
Saadani Safari Lodge is small and intimate, with just nine individual tented cottages set along the beach, cooled by soft ocean breezes and shaded by casherina trees. Cottages are twin or double with swathes of sail cloth adorning the ceilings, large romantic Zanzibar style nets and locally carved furniture.
The ensuite bathrooms are creatively decorated with sand floors and shell mosaics. Hot water is solar powered and plentiful.
The lodge now also offers the ultimate in relaxation - "Al Fresco" beds. Sleep in comfort and peace on one of our specially made double beds located on the beach front veranda.
The white sandy beach at Saadani Safari Lodge disappears to the horizon in both directions. You can pad barefooted directly from your veranda onto the beach for a gentle stroll or to watch the fishermen bringing in their prawn nets.
Out at sea there is a small tidal sand island set in clear waters, which makes a lovely full day ocean boat trip. Here, you can picnic lunch under shade on the cool island sand and there are good snorkelling spots just offshore.
Dolphins and green Turtles are often seen at the island and love to play around the boat.

Day 3 & 4 Saadani National Park | Meals: BLD
Swim, soak up the sun, game view -- the choice is yours on these two days. You'll find plenty of game near the lodge - including lion, kudu, buffalo, giraffe and much more. Imagine winding up a game drive with a walk through the surf back to your lodge. It's all possible, as the white sand beach leads right up to your private verandah. The area around your lodge is a breeding ground for the sea turtle.
