Day 3 Nairobi-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Begin your safari in Kenya's most famous park, as your drive takes you to the Masai Mara today. Arrive in time for lunch and then enjoy an afternoon game drive. Have your game-viewing checklist handy, as the Masai Mara has one of the richest varieties of birdlife and wildlife in the world. Buffalo and wildebeest herds are huge in the Mara - and predators like lion and hyena are equally abundant.
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.

You might want to start the day with an optional balloon safari, floating over the Mara as the animals begin to stir. Morning and afternoon game drives are always exciting in the Masai Mara, as you never know what you will see! Topi, gazelle and elephant are frequently seen, as are silverbacked jackals, hippo and crocodiles.

Day 5 Masai Mara-Rift Valley | Meals: BLD
Your journey takes you into the Rift Valley and ecologically diverse Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive which might reveal rhino, Rothschild giraffe, waterbuck and impala. Watch the treetops for the playful black and white Colobus monkeys. Then, continue to Lake Nakuru or Lake Naivasha for the night.
Situated in the south east ecological niche of the Lake Nakuru National Park is the Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service, with commanding views of the Lesser Flamingo dotted with the Greater Flamingo, for which Lake Nakuru is justly famous. It is another world for the visitor, one where a person easily forgets the hustle and bustle of the city. The lodge blends well with it's surroundings and the animals often browse peacefully close to the lodge and environs, much to the fascination of the visitors.

Day 6 Rift Valley-Amboseli | Meals: BLD
Leave early this morning and drive towards Nairobi and then turn south towards stunning Amboseli National Park at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Cynthia Moss focused much of her research on elephants in Amboseli National Park as herds of these gentle giants dot the plains.
Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa�s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930s, inspired Ernest Hemingway�s unforgettable stories �The Snows of Kilimanjaro� and �The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber� which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.
While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world�s most renowned African tribe.

Day 8 Amboseli-Lake Manyara | Meals: BLD
Crossing into Tanzania today, stop for lunch in Arusha before continuing on to Lake Manyara. As you approach Lake Manyara, you are sure to be struck by the dramatic views. The lake lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Springs rise up from the base of the escarpment, providing a welcome water supply.
It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for Lake Manyara Serena Lodge - on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the stunning Manyara soda lake. The short grass plains of the Serengeti combined with an abundant source of food in large herds of zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo, make the Serengeti an ideal place to spot cheetah on the hunt. Cheetahs (unlike lions and leopards) will hunt during the day. Unfortunately, its open hunting technique also makes it easy for lion and leopard to steal the cheetah's kill. Day 11 Serengeti-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
After an early breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. At just 100 square miles, Ngorongoro Crater comprises a small portion of the 3200 square mile conservation area. Spend the afternoon game-viewing on the crater floor. Supporting more than 20,000 mammals, Ngorongoro Crater is home to a wide variety of both herbivores and carnivores. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and eland are abundant. With such a rich food supply, carnivores like lion, hyenas and leopard are also at home in the crater. Watch for the kori bustard (the world's largest flying bird) to see if you can spot its elaborate territorial display during breeding season.
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.

After breakfast, drive to Mto Wa Mbu Village for a fun cultural experience. Enjoy lunch at the village and then stroll through the village, visiting a school and a church. Continue on to Tarangire, game-viewing enroute.
Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.
Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.
With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.
While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.
Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.

Day 8 Amboseli-Lake Manyara | Meals: BLD
Crossing into Tanzania today, stop for lunch in Arusha before continuing on to Lake Manyara. As you approach Lake Manyara, you are sure to be struck by the dramatic views. The lake lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Springs rise up from the base of the escarpment, providing a welcome water supply.
Lake Manyara Serena Lodge
It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for Lake Manyara Serena Lodge - on the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the stunning Manyara soda lake. Tree-climbing lions are but one lure. The extraordinary birdlife has made this place world-renowned among ornithologists, who come to observe the masses of pink flamingos and great birds of prey.
The abundant birdlife inspired the design of Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge - swooping curves are complemented by soft, geometric patterns; stylish murals depict bird migration patterns. Day 9 Lake Manyara-Serengeti
Enjoy an early morning game drive and lunch before departing the lodge. Our drive then continues to Tanzania's most famous park, the Serengeti. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word "siringet", which means endless plains. Appropriately named, every year the Serengeti plays host to one of the world's most impressive migration of herbivores. Game-viewing is exciting year-round, as the Serengeti supports large prides of lions as well as a healthy population of leopards.
Serengeti Sopa Lodge
Located on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, home to many thousands of wild and rare animals, Serengeti Sopa Lodge lies within an area of out-standing natural beauty. An oasis of cool relaxation from the equatorial sun.
The lodge allows its guests to experience magnificent sights and enjoy interaction with the land and animals difficult to find elsewhere, whilst at the same time enjoying the highest level of cuisine and hospitality.

Day 10 Serengeti | Meals: BLD
The short grass plains of the Serengeti combined with an abundant source of food in large herds of zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo, make the Serengeti an ideal place to spot cheetah on the hunt. Cheetahs (unlike lions and leopards) will hunt during the day. Unfortunately, its open hunting technique also makes it easy for lion and leopard to steal the cheetah's kill. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives today.

Day 11 Serengeti-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
After an early breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. At just 100 square miles, Ngorongoro Crater comprises a small portion of the 3200 square mile conservation area. Spend the afternoon game-viewing on the crater floor. Supporting more than 20,000 mammals, Ngorongoro Crater is home to a wide variety of both herbivores and carnivores. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and eland are abundant. With such a rich food supply, carnivores like lion, hyenas and leopard are also at home in the crater. Watch for the kori bustard (the world's largest flying bird) to see if you can spot its elaborate territorial display during breeding season.
Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west, and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater's entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.
Themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs, and decorated with examples of Africa's rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, the lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings. But the drama does not just stop with the great outdoors: it also flows through the split level interiors of the main building which all offer an unsurpassed generosity of space while somehow managing to combine an almost magically welcoming ambiance of both warmth and coziness.

Brightly colored flowers of many species of shrubs border the paved pathways which lead away from both sides of the swimming pool to our guest rooms which are built to the same design.
When you step through your door, you will probably hold your breath while you stare over the two queen size beds, and through the window walling of the lower level, enclosed solarium at the view of the crater beyond.
And the luxury doesn't stop there. Because of its altitude the lodge can be chilly at night so each room has central heating; hot water bottles are placed in every bed during our evening turndown service; and our luxuriously appointed bathrooms have extremely spacious showers under which you can reminisce about the wonders of this awesome, almost magically mystical place called Ngorongoro.

Day 12 Ngorongoro-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
After breakfast, drive to Mto Wa Mbu Village for a fun cultural experience. Enjoy lunch at the village and then stroll through the village, visiting a school and a church. Continue on to Tarangire, game-viewing enroute.
Tarangire Sopa Lodge
Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park - home to the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa. Many can be seen around the lodge, allowing visitors a close encounter.
Built on different levels, the main public area building offers an extremely cool respite from the outdoor heat as soon as you step into the reception.
With a perfumed towel and a chilled welcome drink in hand, you suddenly become aware of the sheer size of the lobby with its glistening marble floors, colourful hand-woven carpets, and an incredibly high roof. From here a short flight of steps takes you up a level and into the lounge and bar with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an evening sundowner and, later perhaps, a game of pool in the area behind the bar.
While our circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be - but rarely - delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason our guards will insist on taking you to and fro at night.
Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted at its space and airiness, and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night.

Day 13 Tarangire | Meals: BLD
The park derives its name from the Tarangire River and during your morning and afternoon game drives in the park, you might spot lion, bat-eared fox, kudu and the bateleur eagle.

Return to Arusha for lunch and then continue to Nairobi, arriving late this afternoon.

This morning, visit the Daphne Sheldrick Orphanage for a unique perspective into the painstaking work involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants. You will have a chance to meet the special caretakers who bond with their charges and become surrogate mothers. Enjoy lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant before returning to your hotel to freshen up, Later, depart on the overnight flight to London.
