Arrive in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica set in the heart of the Meseta Central. You will be met and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 2 San Jose-Tortuguero (BLD) After an early morning departure, we travel through the Braulio Carrillo National Park. We stop for breakfast before continuing on to Moin to board small boats for our journey along the Canal de Tortuguero. The canal is more than 70 miles long and links lagoons and major rivers . Our journey takes about 1 1/2 hours and is filled with sights and sounds of the bustling waterway and fascinating birdlife along the banks of the canal. Day 3 Tortuguero National Park (BLD) After a leisurely morning, board small boats for continued exploration of the smaller, secondary canals. Keep a lookout for river otters, crocodiles and turtles, along with the very talkative howler monkeys and Toucans. Day 4 Tortuguero-Arenal (BL) After breakfast, travel through the canals and then by road to Gu?piles where we stop for lunch before continuing to Arenal Volcano, one of Costa Rica's most dramatic sites. It towers at 5,389 feet and is almost a perfect cone. It remains active today and almost a day doesn't pass without some type of minor eruption. Day 5 Arenal (BD) Ca?o Negro is one of Costa Ricas's 2 inland wetland areas with a vast lake in the heart of its 24,000+acre glorious wildlife sanctuary. Enjoy a half day horseback riding tour to Fortuna Waterfall, where there is time to take a swim in the natural pool below the falls. Later enjoy one of the benefits of the nearby volcano: take a soothing thermal bath at the Tabac?n Hot Springs where hot subterranean mineral-waters from the volcano feed various size pools. Day 6 Arenal-Monteverde (B) A late morning departure takes us to Monteverde to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve which covers more than 26,000 acres of forest and is home to more than 2,000 species of plants, 400 species of birds and 100 mammal species. Perhaps the most famous resident of the Cloud Forest is the spectacular quetzal. The male quetzal's tail feathers can reach more than 2 feet! Day 7 Monteverde (B) Explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest on a half day tour today. You might also want to take an optional exciting adventure on the Sky Trek. This incredible canopy ride takes you along 10 different cable systems (the longest being 1400 feet with a height of 417 feet) stretched over 1.25 miles. Day 8 Monteverde-Manuel Antonio (B) A morning transfer takes you to Manuel Antonio arriving early this afternoon. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 9 Manuel Antonio (B) At just over 1600 acres, Manuel Antonio National Park is quite small but teeming with wildlife. Take the Sloth Trail walk today, accompanied by the constant chatter of the capuchin moneys. Look out for sloths, iguanas up in the trees, along with toucans and parrots. Don't be surprised if a coati scampers in front of your path. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 10 Manuel Antonio-San Jose (B) A road transfer takes you back to San Jose where the remainder of the day is at leisure. Day 11 San Jose-USA (B) You will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight home today.
