Day 1 Arrive San Jose
Arrive San Jose Upon arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 2 San Jose-Tortuguero | Meals: BLD
A scenic 3 1/2 hour drive this morning takes you to the docks at Siquirres where you board small boats for your journey through the natural and man-made canals of Tortuguero.
Day 3 Tortuguero National Park | Meals: BLD
After a leisurely morning, return to the canals to explore. Unique flora and fauna surrounds the canals. From July to September, you might want to take an optional turtle-watching evening tour to take in the amazing sight of thousands of sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach.
Day 4 Tortuguero-Arenal Volcano Area | Meals: BLD
Small boats take you back to the docks at Siquirres where you continue by road to the Arenal Volcano area. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant enroute before you arrive at your hotel this afternoon.
Day 5 Arenal Volcano | Meals: BD
The morning is at leisure to relax or perhaps enjoy an optional activity like horseback riding. Later, you'll visit Arenal Volcano, capped with a visit to the Tabacon Hot Springs.
Day 6 Arenal Volcano-Monteverde | Meals: B
A scheduled shuttle transfer takes you to Monteverde. This area was discovered in the 1950's by a group of Quakers from Alabama. They built a school, formed a dairy cooperative and most important, protected the high zone of the Tilaran mountain range and founded the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
Day 7 Monteverde
The day is at leisure. An optional visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest might reveal more than 100 species of mammals and more than 500 butterfly species!
Day 8 Monteverde-Beach Extension or San Jose | Meals: B
