Day 2  Johannesburg-Kwara Concession | Meals: BLD
Fly to Maun today, where you continue by light aircraft flight to your intimate camp located within the game rich Kwara Concession, which borders the Moremi Game Reserve on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta.

Little Kwara is an intimate camp, accommodating no more than 10 guests. Be sure you have your binoculars handy, since when you set out this afternoon on your first game viewing activity, the action will almost be non-stop!

Little Kwara

Little Kwara is located in the remote northern part of the stunning Okavango Delta within the private Kwara concession. The camp fronts onto a huge floodplain, adjacent to the permanent water of the Delta and is backed by extensive bush. It is a magnificent wilderness area in excess of 1,700 square kilometres, bordering the Moremi Reserve.

No trip to Botswana is complete without a visit to the Delta, the shimmering and unique watery jewel in the middle of the Kalahari desert. Kwara encompasses a wide diversity of habitats, ranging from the clear Delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels, to open grasslands, mopane woodlands and palm-fringed islands.

The five luxury safari-style tents are built on raised decks, within a grove of huge and ancient African Ebony trees. Resident hippos will generally serenade you year round from the water on the floodplain in front of the camp. Each tent has its own viewing deck, private en-suite facilities including hot and cold running showers, flush toilets and modern amenities.

Like the other Kwando camps, Kwara offers exclusive and private traverse for all its varied activities.

Here our guests can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year-round, but the focus is definitely on the water. Whether gliding along in the special silence of a mekoro dug out canoe through crystal-clear waters or visiting the famous Godikwe lagoon, where you can stand on a boat literally eye to eye with thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds. Kwara is the nearest camp to this famous spectacle in Moremi Game Reserve.

Along with the bird watching, we're able to offer fishing (spinner fishing, but please feel free to bring your own equipment should you want to fly fish), walks with a guide on one of the many palm-fringed islands and also spectacular night drives on top of our morning and afternoon drives. The beauty and charm of Kwara will captivate you.

Day 3 & 4  Kwara Concession | Meals: BLD
Little Kwara offers all the activities one expects in an exclusive concession in the Okavango Delta - day and night drives, game walks, power boating, mokoro trips and fishing (spinning equipment is provided but fly fishermen need to bring their own equipment).

Each game vehicle is guided by a two person team of professional guide and tracker. This team allows the guide to talk to you about points of interest, while the tracker keeps on eye out to be sure you don't miss any sightings or tracks.

During your stay, you should take at least one game walk. Walks are not hikes - they are slow, comfortable strolls that allow you to take in everything around you at a natural pace. You can combine a walk with a game drive or mokoro ride - and the length of walk can be tailored to suite your level of fitness.

A mokoro - the traditional dug out canoe - is surely the definitive Okavango Delta experience. The complete stillness of an early morning, disturbed only by the sound of the water dripping from the ngashe (wooden pole used to move the canoe), and the eerie call of the fish eagle echoing across the water, is a sublime experience. The mokoro was designed to move across areas with low water levels by the indigenous peoples who inhabited the Delta and who explored the waterways and floodplains in search of food. Today, these same mekoro provide an opportunity to glide through this varied and unique habitat using the traditional skills handed down through the generations.

Day 5  Lebala Camp - Kwando Concession | Meals: BLDBLD
Today, a change of pace. A light aircraft transfer takes you to your second camp, in the south of the Kwando concession, adjacent to the head waters of the Linyanti marshes.

Lebala means "wide open spaces" in Setswana and the scenery here is dominated by vast plains with scattered palms and tree islands. Lebala Camp is comprised of eight custom designed tents, with unique mosquito net walls, allowing an unobstructed flow of cooling breezes and stunning views.

Lebala Camp

One of finest tented camps in Africa. Lebala in the Setswana language, means "open plains" which aptly describes the extensive grasslands and seasonal flood plains of the Linyanti marshes - fed by the Kwando River. Lebala tents are well known by experienced travelers for their old world charm and modern comforts. At times the camp becomes an island when the floods arrive.

The 8 luxurious tents have a view onto the surrounding plains from their teak decks. The spacious bedroom, intimate lounge, dressing room and en suite bathrooms with Victorian ball-and-claw bath tubs, double basins and outside showers complete the picture. The camp has a plunge pool, lounge, bar, dinning room, game viewing hide, gift shop and fire place area. The game viewing at Lebala is amongst the best in Africa due both to the concentrations of game and the excellent visibility on the plains. Lebala focuses on the excellent game drives, both off road and at night. Bush walks are at guides discretion due to seasonal high elephant concentrations.

There are no water activities offered due to the presence of large numbers of hippo and elephant in the channels.

Lebala has a simple formula - the grass on the plains is grazed short by abundant prey species resulting in concentrations of large predators. Lebala, like Lagoon, has a reputation for predator action with the lions known for their ability to hunt and kill mega fauna like buffalo, hippo and elephant. Lebala airstrip is 6km from the camp.

Day 6 & 7  Lebala Camp Kwando Concession
The Kwando concession is home to a wide variety of plains game, like zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe and tsesebe. You might also see the shy sitatunga, along with lechwe and waterbuck.

This area is also famous for its predator sightings along with high concentrations of elephants. Wild dog are also here and between July-September/October, the changes are excellent for wild dog sightings. Game viewing here is by land, either in special 4x4 vehicles or by foot.

Night game drives are especially exciting in the bush. You'll start out late in the afternoon as the sun begins to dip and the heat of the day starts to turn to the coolness of the night. Stop for a refreshing sundowner as the evening sky emerges. Then, the spotlight comes on and the creatures of the night -- especially the predators - are revealed. You never know what you might discover on a night drive, so keep your camera at the ready.
